The 2014 GED® test is a four-subject high school equivalency test that measures the skills required by high schools and requested by colleges and employers. The four subjects are:
Many employers, including the military, require that you have a high school diploma or its equivalent (the GED) in order to work. You also need the GED or diploma to start college.
How much does it cost?
The GED test cost $144 ($36 per section). You do not have to pay for all the tests at one time. Funding sources may also be available to help with these costs if you qualify. Currently the state of Kentucky pays for one attempt of each subject and one retake of each subject. It's possible to get your GED for FREE!!
do i qualify?
If you are at least 19 years old and have not earned a high school diploma from a public or private high school, you may be eligible to take the GED. You can take the GED® test if you are 18 and have officially withdrawn from school for at least 90 days as certified by the local school district. The local school superintendent may choose to waive this 90 day school wait period.
Do i have to go to class?
You could take the test without taking a class, but, we’re ready and waiting to help you prepare. Best of all, our classes are free of charge! Contact us to learn more about the benefits of studying in a class before attempting the GED test.
can i retake if i fail it?
Yes, and we are here for you as long as you need. There’s no waiting period in Kentucky if you do not pass a subject area test the first time, and there’s no limit to how many times you can test in a year. There is a 60-day waiting period if you take a test subject three times. GED testing service currently provides a reduced fee of $10 each for two retakes for each subject.
what does the test look like?
It includes multiple choice, gridding, graphing and essay question formats in four key areas of education: Reading Through Language Arts (150 minutes including a 10-minute break), Mathematical Reasoning (115 minutes), Science (90 minutes) and Social Studies (70 minutes). It takes about seven hours to complete at one time, but you don’t have to take it all at one time if you’re not ready! In order to pass, you must score 145 in each subject area.
where do i take the test?
GED tests can be taken at official testing centers. The closest testing facilities to Knox County Adult Ed are Laurel County Adult Ed, Somerset Community College (Laurel Campus), Southeast Community College (Middlesboro), and Whitley County Adult Ed. Testing days and times vary by facility. Or GED tests can be taken online virtually ANYWHERE. Certain computer and space requirements do apply, but online tests can be scheduled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
how long do i have to wait for scores?
You can find out the same day usually within three hours of completing the test.
